The National Science Foundation Division of Graduate Education awarded The Research Foundation For The State University Of New York $250,000 on August 1, 2026, under the STEM Education program (CFDA 47.076) to develop OpenSecCoder, an open-source experiential learning platform for secure agentic AI software development. OpenSecCoder extends OpenHands, an open-source agentic coding framework, by integrating sandboxed execution environments, static analysis tools including open-source large language models, and benchmark suites into a single extensible teaching workspace designed for multi-user classroom deployment. The project will produce eight hands-on labs aligned with the OWASP Top 10 for Agentic Applications and three curriculum modules—two for computing students and one for non-computing students requiring no programming prerequisite. Faculty development workshops will support adoption of the platform. All software, labs, and curriculum materials will be released as open-source resources to enable broad institutional adoption and strengthen national cybersecurity capacity. The platform is expected to serve approximately 1,000 students annually at the University at Buffalo and the University of Texas at San Antonio. Performance occurs in Buffalo, New York. The period of performance runs from August 1, 2026, through July 31, 2029. RF SUNY serves as fiscal agent and sponsored programs administrator for SUNY institutions; the University at Buffalo is the ultimate recipient.
