The National Science Foundation Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastructure awarded North Carolina State University $105,635 on November 1, 2025, under the Computer and Information Science and Engineering program (CFDA 47.070) to develop six modular, self-paced online training resources for viral ecology researchers and research computing professionals in the use of scalable pipelines within NSF-supported cyberinfrastructure ecosystems. The training modules will address AI-driven methods and high-performance computing tools for analyzing large viral genomic datasets, designed around FAIR principles (findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable). The award supports the iVirus Cyberinfrastructure Training Initiative, which aims to close a gap between rapid development of computational algorithms for viral research and current training capacity for both scientists and research computing professionals. Performance takes place in Raleigh, North Carolina, with a completion date of October 31, 2026.
