- The National Science Foundation Division of Mathematical Sciences awarded Massachusetts Institute of Technology $244,913 on July 1, 2026, under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049) to advance symplectic topology research connecting geometry, topology, number theory, and algebraic geometry. The award funds research in two directions. The investigator will study Frobenius structures on quantum D-modules and quantum connections from arithmetic, categorical, and...
- The Trustees of Princeton University were awarded a $500,000 Project Grant from the National Science Foundation Division of Mathematical Sciences on August 15, 2021. The grant supports research titled "Symmetry, Singularity, and Stability in Fluids and Plasmas" to be conducted at Princeton University in Princeton, New Jersey through July 31, 2025. This award falls under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049) of the National Science Foundation, which aims to...
- This Project Grant from the National Science Foundation Division of Mathematical Sciences, under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049), provides $144,726 to support collaborative research in the area of symplectic geometry between Cornell University and other institutions. Specifically, the funding will advance knowledge and understanding of the relationship between the geometry of Hamiltonian systems and the combinatorics of momentum maps through investigations into the...
- The National Science Foundation Division of Mathematical Sciences awarded The Trustees of Princeton University a $285,000 Project Grant under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences federal grant program (CFDA 47.049) for work on "Stochastic Optimal Control with High Dimensional Data." This three-year award, which began on June 15, 2021 and runs through May 31, 2024, will support Princeton University's efforts to promote progress in the mathematical and physical sciences through...
- This three-year Project Grant from the National Science Foundation's Mathematical and Physical Sciences program provides $300,000 to apply dynamical and computer-assisted methods to Hamiltonian systems. The grant recipient, located in Brooklyn, NY, will use the funding from Oct. 2021 through Sep. 2024 to advance understanding of major problems in the mathematical and physical sciences through increasing the store of scientific knowledge on dynamical systems and mechanics. As part of the NSF's...
- The National Science Foundation Division of Mathematical Sciences awarded $200,000 to Harvard College on August 1, 2026, under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049) to fund research on special varieties in algebraic dynamics. The project investigates mathematical structures governing dynamical systems defined by repeated application of algebraic rules, with focus on identifying when such systems exhibit hidden geometric structure rather than generic chaotic behavior....
The National Science Foundation Division of Mathematical Sciences awarded The Trustees of Princeton University $180,000 on September 1, 2026, under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049) to develop new symplectic methods in low-dimensional Hamiltonian dynamics. The project aims to resolve four long-standing theoretical problems in Hamiltonian systems: Arnold's conjecture on magnetic geodesics on Riemannian surfaces, the distribution of periodic orbits for generic Hamiltonian systems, the classification of pseudo-rotations of the disk, and the existence of invariant subsets for volume-preserving flows on three-manifolds. The recipient will attack each problem using new techniques in holomorphic curves, a subfield of symplectic geometry with demonstrated success in Hamiltonian dynamics. Advances in these mathematical techniques have potential applications to space mission design and other physical systems of national interest, including motion of particles in magnetic fields and planetary motion. Work is performed at Princeton, New Jersey, with performance period September 1, 2026, through August 31, 2029. No sub-awards are planned.
