- This SBIR Phase I project, awarded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) under the Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships (CFDA 47.084) program, is focused on the development of a novel mammalian cell-based nano-biological coating for implantable medical devices. The goal is to address the critical health and economic burden associated with implant-related infections by reducing or eliminating them through the use of this biocompatible and antimicrobial nano-biological coating. The $305,000...
- This STTR Phase I Project Grant, awarded by the National Science Foundation (CFDA 47.084 - NSF Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships program), provides $305,000 to Magsorbeo Biomedical Corp to develop a bioabsorbable magnesium alloy for maxillofacial fixation implants. The goal is to create a magnesium-based implant that can temporarily support healing, then gradually be absorbed by the body, eliminating the need for secondary removal surgeries. This innovation aims to improve healthcare...
- This National Science Foundation (NSF) Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships (CFDA 47.084) Cooperative Agreement award to Reselute, Inc. provides $998,921 to develop a novel implantable orthopedic medical device and procedure to reduce recovery duration and infection risks associated with severe traumatic fractures of the long bones. The project aims to advance a 3D-printed, antibiotic-releasing intramedullary nail to improve upon current standard-of-care implants that are prone to...
- Hera Health Solutions Inc. received a $275,000 National Science Foundation Project Grant under the NSF Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships program to develop a biodegradable contraceptive-releasing implant. The award aims to advance long-acting reversible contraception by creating an implant that delivers consistent hormone doses and does not require surgical removal. During the one-year period from May 1, 2023 to April 30, 2024, the company will characterize the drug delivery scaffold,...
- Nostopharma LLC was awarded a $256,000 Small Business Technology Transfer Phase I Project Grant from the National Science Foundation to develop a sustained-release, biodegradable nanoparticle drug delivery system for treatment of soft tissue trauma complications. Funded under the NSF Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships program (CFDA 47.084), the 12-month project beginning March 1, 2022 aims to demonstrate in vitro and in vivo feasibility of modulating the ectopic bone microenvironment...
- The National Science Foundation awarded $304,950 to Senphonix, Inc. on October 1, 2026, under the NSF Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships program (CFDA 47.084) to develop injection-molded biosymbiotic devices for long-term, multimodal physiological monitoring as a Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Phase I project. The work centers on designing and demonstrating a lightweight mesh wearable sleeve with embedded microsensors, coupled with wireless charging electronics, remote radio...
- This National Science Foundation (NSF) Cooperative Agreement award under the NSF Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships (TIP) program (CFDA 47.084) provides $1,000,000 in funding to Amphix Bio Inc. to develop scalable manufacturing methods for a novel supramolecular polymer-based spinal implant. The project aims to enable safer, simpler, and lower-cost spinal fusion surgery by advancing this regenerative medicine technology. The key deliverables include scaling up the production of the...
- The National Science Foundation awarded Modular Matter, Inc. $305,000 on October 1, 2026, under NSF Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships (CFDA 47.084) to develop a universally adjustable, modular prosthesis socket system. The recipient will design and prototype expandable, modular components fabricated using selective laser sintering that can be assembled, configured, and reconfigured to accommodate individual limb shapes and volume fluctuations. The system targets both upper and lower...
The National Science Foundation awarded Simplybreathe Inc. (doing business as Simplybreathe LLC) $304,857 on August 15, 2026, under the NSF Technology, Innovation, and Partnerships program (CFDA 47.084) for a Small Business Technology Transfer Phase I project to develop steroid-eluting biodegradable implants. The award funds development of a novel implantable material and manufacturing platform that delivers extended-release steroids through a bioabsorbable device. Work includes designing and engineering procedural tools for device placement, developing prototypes using hot melt extrusion to combine dissolvable polymers with powdered steroids at controlled temperatures to prevent steroid degradation, and validating bench performance of the polymer formulation. The project characterizes in vivo performance of the devices and correlates in vitro elution data with in vivo absorption to meet regulatory requirements. Prototypes will be implanted in suitable models, then refined and tested to validate elution, biostability, and degradation behavior, establishing a foundation for implantable device development at a future stage. Performance occurs in New Orleans, Louisiana. The period of performance runs through July 31, 2027. Sub-awards are planned for this project.
