- This $181,564 National Science Foundation award under the Geosciences program (CFDA 47.050) will establish a marine genomics center at the University of Washington's Friday Harbor Laboratories. The center will remodel an underutilized laboratory building equipped with seawater systems into a wet lab and dry procedure space containing tools for molecular genomics research. This includes equipment for nanopore sequencing, amplification, purification and quality assurance. The new laboratory will...
- The National Science Foundation awarded a $1,101,964 project grant to the Institute For Systems Biology under the Biological Sciences program (CFDA 47.074) for research titled "COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH: IMAGINE: QUANTIFYING DIATOM RESILIENCE IN AN ACIDIFIED OCEAN." The grant, awarded June 15, 2021 with a completion date of May 31, 2024, will fund research to increase scientific understanding of how diatom populations respond and adapt to increasing ocean acidification. The Biological...
The National Science Foundation (NSF) Biological Sciences (CFDA 47.074) program has awarded Walla Walla University a $260,558 Project Grant to upgrade the seawater system at the Rosario Beach Marine Laboratory (RBML). The upgrades will include new filtration and sterilization infrastructure to improve the reliability and scale of experiments related to ocean acidification, marine invertebrate physiology, harmful algal blooms, and seagrass wasting disease. The enhanced seawater system will enable RBML to support critical research on marine responses to environmental change, expand training and research opportunities for students, and host more external researchers. Additionally, the upgrades will allow RBML to be certified as a terminal quarantine facility, enabling the lab to house non-native species. These improvements will support the continuation of vital research, K-12 teacher workshops, student programs, and community engagement activities at the laboratory.
