The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service awarded a $500,000 Project Grant under the Forest Health Protection program (CFDA 10.680) to the State of Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) on February 22, 2024. The grant funds will support DLNR's efforts to manage invasive grass species across Hawaii through a range of activities, including conducting invasive species surveys, implementing pest suppression treatments, and carrying out on-the-ground management to enhance forest health and ecosystem resilience. The project is scheduled for completion by June 30, 2028. As a state government agency, DLNR utilizes federal grants to support its mission of managing and protecting Hawaii's natural resources, working in partnership with universities, nonprofits, and other state agencies.
