The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a Project Grant under the Biological Sciences (CFDA 47.074) federal grant program to Purdue University in the amount of $464,957 to support the Purdue Undergraduate Research Experiences for Plant Biology and Data Science (PURE-PD) program. This 3-year REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) site award, effective June 1, 2025 through May 31, 2028, will provide hands-on research opportunities for 30 students, primarily from schools with limited research options, in data-driven plant biology projects. Through mentorship and professional development, the program aims to equip students with valuable transferable skills applicable to STEM careers and strengthen the U.S. workforce. Research areas include regulation of plant nutrition, plant health monitoring, host-pathogen interactions, and developmental processes. The program will also involve activities focused on research ethics, data management, and scholarly communication. No subawards are planned under this grant.
