The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded a $447,093 Project Grant to Salisbury University (SU) under the Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) Federal Grant Program (CFDA 47.070). The three-year grant, effective February 15, 2025, will fund a Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) site program called "EXERCISE - EXPLORE EMERGING COMPUTING IN SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING."

This interdisciplinary project will provide 30 undergraduate students with opportunities to conduct research and present their findings at regional and national conferences. The program aims to advance high-performance computing, foster a "parallel thinking" mindset for problem-solving, and attract a diverse student body, including from local Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and community colleges, into computational science and engineering. Students will gain hands-on experience in developing parallel algorithms and programs, as well as investigating the performance and limitations of parallel processing in areas such as pattern recognition, public health, aquaculture, and smart transportation.
