The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $127,658 CAREER grant under the Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) program (CFDA 47.070) to Trustees of Boston University. The grant supports a project titled "PHYSICALLY-AWARE ACCELERATOR DESIGN FLOWS FOR MOTION PLANNING" that aims to develop new hardware design flows and runtime systems to enable the efficient design of accelerators for autonomous systems, such as robots. The project focuses on identifying computational patterns shaped by the physical characteristics of robot deployment scenarios and encoding this information into the accelerator design process. This will facilitate the design of accelerators to boost the capabilities of autonomous systems, including faster control for safer human-robot interaction. The 5-year project period runs from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2029 and includes educational and outreach activities to prepare students from diverse backgrounds for careers in advanced interdisciplinary computing design.
