This National Science Foundation (NSF) Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) Federal Grant Program (CFDA 47.070) Project Grant award, with a total funding amount of $292,844.00, will support the development of a new organizational structure for envisioning new research directions for computer and information science that incorporates expertise from the social sciences, legal studies, and civil society, in addition to scientific, industry, and government leaders. The investigators will conduct interviews, build computational models of sociotechnical ecosystems, and hold visioning workshops to elicit ideas for promising research directions and potential social impacts, with the goal of developing a strategic visioning process that is sensitive to complex sociotechnical and ecosystemic change. This work will culminate in a written report and a tutorial on running such visioning processes. No sub awards are planned for this award, which has an ultimate completion date of July 31, 2025.
