This Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Mathematical and Physical Sciences (CFDA 47.049) program provides $968,765 to The Regents of the University of Colorado for a 3-year project to develop a modeling framework and software tools to evaluate the impact of testing-based policies for controlling the spread of respiratory pathogens, including SARS-CoV-2. The project aims to create flexible models to simulate how different testing policies could perform across various pathogens, diagnostic tests, and human behavioral scenarios. The researchers will also develop statistical methods to infer how test results, infectiousness, and behaviors relate to one another using data on SARS-CoV-2 and other respiratory viruses. The deliverables include open-source software, tutorials for policymakers, and a data hub to support testing-based policy design and assessment. This work is expected to enhance the ability to control existing respiratory diseases and improve preparedness for future pandemics.
