This Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation (NSF) Engineering program (CFDA 47.041) provides $199,971 to the University of Notre Dame to develop advanced spectrum sensing capabilities to enable more efficient and dynamic spectrum sharing for future 6G and beyond cellular technologies.
The key research thrusts include: (i) developing ultra-efficient analog cross-correlators for low-latency spectrum sensing, (ii) designing protocol-aware configurations to enable fine-grained, in-band spectrum monitoring, and (iii) optimizing the deployment of a dense network of such sensors to facilitate cooperative, in-situ spectrum monitoring aware of communication standards. This work aims to transform spectrum sensing by providing significantly enhanced spatial and temporal resolution compared to existing systems, while improving energy efficiency and enabling seamless integration with cellular network architectures. The award period is from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2027.
