This $1,200,000 Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) program (CFDA 47.070) aims to develop novel and comprehensive trustworthy artificial intelligence (AI) tools to address technical and social trust issues arising in AI systems embedded in transportation cyber-physical systems (CPS).
The key products and services to be delivered under this 3-year award include: 1) developing AI safety, AI security, and AI fairness solutions for a wide spectrum of learning-based AI methods used in transportation CPS at microscopic, mesoscopic, and macroscopic scales; 2) integrating multiple aspects of AI trustworthiness, such as the AI safety-fairness nexus, to ensure the integrity of transportation CPS; 3) adopting a holistic, systematic approach to tackle trustworthiness issues throughout the AI system lifecycle; and 4) delivering education and workforce training to address AI trustworthiness in transportation CPS. The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) is leading this multidisciplinary research project, with sub-awards planned.
