This $350,000 Project Grant awarded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) Division of Materials Research supports the "MATERIALS INTERFACES RESEARCH AND ACCESS-(MIRA-PREM)- AN NSF PREM CENTER" at Northern Arizona University (NAU), a Hispanic Serving Institution. The project, running from September 2024 to August 2027, focuses on two main research areas: 1) New Materials for Controlled Light-Matter Interactions, and 2) Electroresponsive Materials. The research aims to advance the understanding of how material interfaces can be designed, controlled, or regulated to enable emerging optical, electronic, and quantum technologies. The project also includes educational and community outreach components through programs like SPARCS and Club Scientifico de SPARCS to enhance scientific skills, combat imposter syndrome, and empower underrepresented minority students. NAU is partnering with Pasadena City College and the University of Texas at Austin's Center for Dynamics and Control of Materials to leverage expertise and facilities across the participating institutions.
