This National Science Foundation (NSF) Project Grant under the Engineering program (CFDA 47.041) will fund a qualitative study to investigate the experiences of Black men on undergraduate engineering student project teams. The $300,619 award to George Washington University will use interpretative phenomenological analysis and photovoice methods to address two research questions: 1) What are the experiences of Black men on student project teams?, and 2) How do Black men perceive their participation in decision-making processes within these teams? The study aims to produce strategies to support Black men's sense of belonging and academic/professional success in engineering. A key output will be a photovoice exhibit to share the student-driven strategies, resources, and experiences developed with participants. This project will address critical gaps in the literature on the underrepresentation of Black men in engineering and their team-based experiences.
