The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $240,900 Project Grant through its Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CFDA 47.070) program to The Regents of the University of Colorado, doing business as the University of Colorado Office of Contracts and Grants Division. The grant funding supports the collaborative research project "Developing Educational Resources for the Ethical Use of Pervasive Data." This 3-year project aims to create innovative teaching materials, including case studies and interactive modules, to enhance research ethics education for computing students and junior researchers. The goal is to address knowledge gaps around the ethical collection, storage, sharing, and analysis of large-scale datasets generated from people's digital interactions, known as "pervasive data." The research team will first survey current practices, challenges, and opportunities, then develop and evaluate curricular resources and tools to support ethical decision-making in pervasive data research. This project seeks to promote responsible research practices and ethical awareness among the next generation of computing professionals.
