This $150,000 Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) program (CFDA 47.070) supports the establishment of the Industry-University Cooperative Research Center for Wireless Innovation Towards Secure, Pervasive, Efficient, and Resilient Next G Networks (WISPER) at Virginia Tech.
The center will bring together researchers from Virginia Tech, the University of Arizona, and George Mason University to conduct pre-competitive R&D on key technologies for the next generation of wireless networks, including open software and interfaces, AI-native network operations, spectrum innovation, and security. The project aims to drive U.S. competitiveness and innovation in 6G/Next G technologies, deliver breakthrough research, contribute to the emerging North American 6G vision, guide the 6G R&D roadmap, and train a diverse workforce to address complex 6G challenges. The award period is from August 1, 2024 to July 31, 2029. There are no planned sub-awards for this grant.
