This National Science Foundation (NSF) Mathematical and Physical Sciences (CFDA 47.049) Project Grant award of $300,000 to New York University (NYU) supports the development of innovative fluorinated protein fibers and hydrogels for biomedical applications. The key objectives are: 1) generating coiled-coil fluorinated fibers for controlled drug delivery, 2) creating fluorinated coiled-coil hydrogels responsive to temperature changes, and 3) assessing the potential of these materials as 19F magnetic resonance spectroscopy/imaging agents. This interdisciplinary research aims to precisely control the properties of these fluorinated biomaterials to enable therapeutic delivery and non-invasive imaging, with potential applications in regenerative medicine and diagnostics. The award period is from September 2024 to August 2027. No sub-awards are planned under this grant.
