This National Science Foundation (NSF) Mathematical and Physical Sciences (CFDA 47.049) project grant awarded to Trustees of Dartmouth College for $712,890 will investigate the formation and characteristics of massive stars and their impact on galaxy evolution. The "Origin of Massive Stars" (ORMAS) project aims to achieve a comprehensive understanding of how high-mass stars form and what determines their mass. The project will leverage advanced supercomputer simulations to explore the role of supernova-induced turbulence in the formation of massive stars, as well as develop energy-efficient computing strategies and promote carbon-neutral data centers to reduce the environmental impact of computational science. The project's legacy will include large catalogs of synthetic observations of star-forming regions and young stellar clusters. The award runs from September 1, 2024 through August 31, 2027.
