This National Science Foundation (NSF) Project Grant, titled "COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH: PROTOCOMETS TO PROTOPLANETS: CONNECTING THE CHEMICAL ECOSYSTEMS OF PLANET-FORMING DISKS ACROSS THE SPECTRUM", will support research to characterize the carbon monoxide (CO) gas in disks surrounding new-born stars. The $213,635 award, effective September 15, 2024 through August 31, 2027, will utilize data from ground-based observatories like the Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA) and the Keck Observatory to study how CO chemistry is impacted by dynamical and chemical processing during planet formation. The research will train 3 graduate students and involve 2 undergraduates, while also making calibrated datasets and open-source codes publicly available. Additionally, the project will develop a new undergraduate course on radio astronomy and conduct outreach to local schools and the community.
