This $298,422 federal Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's (NSF) Integrative Activities program (CFDA 47.083) supports Baylor University's acquisition of a helium recovery system for their NMR core research facility. The project enables Baylor to capture and reliquefy approximately 90% of the 1,000 liters of liquid helium used annually by their five NMR spectrometers, providing a sustainable and cost-effective supply of high-purity helium to support a wide range of ongoing and future research projects in areas such as organic chemistry, biochemistry, medicinal chemistry, biophysics, and inorganic chemistry. This helium recovery equipment will also be capable of liquifying helium recovered from other campus and community locations. The award, effective from September 1, 2024 to August 31, 2027, strengthens Baylor's research infrastructure and enables continuity of the university's diverse, externally-funded research programs that rely on the NMR capabilities.
