This Project Grant award of $175,000 from the National Science Foundation's STEM Education (CFDA 47.076) program aims to broaden the participation of underrepresented minority women (UMW) in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education and pathways at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC), a Historically Black College and University (HBCU). The research project, titled "CATALYST RESEARCH ON BROADENING PARTICIPATION IN STEM - EMPLOYING NEO-CONSTRUCTIVISM TRANSITIONS THROUGH EDUCATIONAL ROBOTICS (ENTER) INTO STEM: BUILDING THE WOMEN STEM WORKFORCE", will employ neo-constructivism educational theories and educational robotics to evaluate the effectiveness and impact of robotic interventions on UMW students' STEM attitudes and motivation. The project will also analyze longitudinal data to assess factors influencing STEM transitions and pathways, and develop strategy recommendations for using educational robotics to support UMW populations. The research aims to increase the representation of women in the STEM workforce, strengthen STEM research capacity at UDC, and enhance the knowledge and skills of educators, students, roboticists, and industry professionals in the areas of educational-social-cognitive sciences.
