This federal Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's STEM Education program (CFDA 47.076) provides $953,404 to North Carolina State University to develop and test an innovative professional development program that supports 4th-5th grade teachers in North Carolina to integrate cybersecurity topics into their mathematics and science instruction. The project aims to enhance elementary students' cybersecurity knowledge by synergistically merging cybersecurity with math and science content in real-world contexts. It will leverage a design-thinking-informed framework and provide professional development to 15 teachers initially, followed by an experimental study with 60 additional teachers to measure the impacts on teachers' cybersecurity knowledge/self-efficacy and students' cybersecurity knowledge. A multidisciplinary research team will develop instructional resources and a communication platform to disseminate findings. The project includes a $45,741 sub-award to the University of Delaware to provide expertise on quantitative data analysis, cybersecurity, and research design.
