The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $270,000 Project Grant under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences (CFDA 47.049) program to a research team at Kansas State University, Pennsylvania State University, and Carnegie Mellon University. The grant supports collaborative research to study how the structural properties of metal nanoclusters impact their electronic and vibrational energy transfer dynamics. The team is using advanced laser techniques, theoretical modeling, and precision nanocluster synthesis to develop a fundamental understanding of structure-property relationships in these materials. The goal is to enable improved design of nanomaterials for applications in emerging technologies such as photodynamic therapy, photocatalysis, integrated circuits, mass sensing, and quantum information science. The research also aims to provide educational and career development opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students in advanced materials research methods. This 3-year project was awarded on June 15, 2024.
