The U.S. Forest Service has awarded a $919,930 Project Grant under the State & Private Forestry Cooperative Fire Assistance program (CFDA 10.698) to the Oregon Department of Forestry. This 4-year award, effective September 8, 2023, will support the Department's delivery of various forestry-related services to assist in the control of rural fires, prevention and suppression of fires on non-federal forest lands, and the development and transfer of new fire management technologies. Key activities will include hazardous fuels reduction, community wildfire protection planning, fire prevention education, incident management support, and capacity building for fire departments and forestry agencies. The Oregon Department of Forestry plans to utilize its specialized expertise and leverage sub-awards to partner organizations like conservation districts and forestry associations to implement these grant-funded initiatives across the state.
