The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Forest Service awarded a $316,957 Project Grant under the State & Private Forestry Hazardous Fuel Reduction Program (CFDA 10.697) to the Hawaii Wildfire Management Organization (dba Hawaii Wildfire), a 501(c)(3) non-profit, to conduct fuels management activities on non-federal lands in the Waianae Kai area of Hawaii. This grant supports the Forest Service's Wildfire Crisis Strategy to treat up to an additional 20 million acres of National Forest System lands and 30 million acres of other federal, state, tribal, and private lands to reduce the risk and long-term damage from large, destructive wildfires. As the prime awardee, Hawaii Wildfire will carry out a range of wildfire planning, mitigation, prevention, and education services for this project, which has an ultimate completion date of April 30, 2027.
