The U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station awarded a $600,000 Project Grant to the Idaho Department of Lands under the State & Private Forestry Hazardous Fuel Reduction Program (CFDA 10.697). The grant supports efforts to reduce the risk and long-term damage of destructive wildfires by decreasing hazardous fuel loads on forests, woodlands, shrublands, and grasslands across Idaho. The funding will enable the Idaho Department of Lands to implement a range of forest management activities, including fuels treatment, prescribed burns, landscape assessments, and development of action plans to improve forest health and resilience. As the state forestry agency, the Department has demonstrated expertise in collaborative initiatives for timber production, recreation access, water quality, habitat conservation, community wildfire protection, and overall natural resource management on federal, non-federal, and tribal lands. This 5-year grant project commenced on Jul 11, 2023 and is scheduled for completion by Jun 30, 2028.
