The National Science Foundation (NSF) has awarded a Project Grant under the Geosciences program (CFDA 47.050) to Portland State University (PSU) in the amount of $505,759.00. This 3-year grant, effective August 1, 2024, supports the "REU SITE: CLIMATE AND ATMOSPHERIC SCIENCE RESEARCH EXPERIENCE IN THE CENTER FOR CLIMATE AND AEROSOL RESEARCH AT PORTLAND STATE UNIVERSITY" program.
The objective of this interdisciplinary program is to train a diverse cohort of 10 undergraduate students per summer in atmospheric and climate science research, with a focus on recruiting from underrepresented groups in STEM fields. The program provides in-depth education, hands-on research opportunities, and mentoring to teach transferable skills such as scientific inquiry, data analysis, and communication. This investment aims to help build a more diverse community of geoscientists to address the urgent societal needs associated with climate change.
