This $350,000 three-year project grant, awarded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) under the STEM Education (CFDA 47.076) program, supports the "Collaborative Approaches among Scientists and Engineers (CASE)" Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) site hosted by Auburn University. The CASE REU program aims to foster multidisciplinary problem-solving skills and address the unique challenges faced by students historically underrepresented in STEM fields. Ten undergraduate students per year will engage in mentored, collaborative research across disciplines to enhance their understanding of the convergence of STEM fields. The program provides professional development workshops covering critical thinking, scientific communication, and cultural competency, as well as travel funding for students to present their research at conferences. The CASE REU project seeks to increase retention and success in STEM through exposure to diverse scientific role models and a supportive environment.
