The National Science Foundation (NSF) Division of Chemistry awarded a $465,000 Project Grant to the University of Kansas Center for Research Inc. to support an REU (Research Experiences for Undergraduates) Site program from 2024 to 2027. This program will provide a 10-week summer research experience for 10 undergraduate students per year, integrating interdisciplinary research, education, and career development activities in the areas of bioanalytics, green chemistry, and renewable energy. The program aims to mentor and train students from primarily undergraduate institutions, with a focus on encouraging participation from women and underrepresented groups in the sciences. Participants will conduct research projects across six interdisciplinary areas, including protein-antibody interactions, nuclear waste remediation, metalloenzyme function, renewable fuel production, and computational chemistry. The program will leverage the university's collaborative research environment, state-of-the-art facilities, and faculty/graduate student mentorship to provide students with valuable research and professional development opportunities.
