The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $459,033 Project Grant under the Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CFDA 47.070) program to Tennessee Technological University (Tennessee Tech). The 3-year grant will fund a Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) site focused on cybersecurity solutions leveraging artificial intelligence for smart systems. The REU program will provide training to 30 undergraduate students in research areas including cryptography, deep learning, federated and reinforcement learning, graph-based anomaly detection, and hardware attack countermeasures. Under faculty mentorship, students will develop, implement, and evaluate cybersecurity solutions. The project aims to contribute to cybersecurity workforce development, increase representation of female and minority students, encourage pursuit of graduate studies, and promote STEM enrollment.
