This National Science Foundation (NSF) Project Grant award under the Engineering Program (CFDA 47.041) provides $313,716 to Texas A&M Engineering Experiment Station (Tees) from August 1, 2024 to July 31, 2027. The funding supports fundamental research to understand the effect of dopant compositions and compositional gradients on optical hybrid materials (OHM) which combine organic and inorganic components at the nanoscale. The research team will leverage combinatorial printing techniques to manufacture OHM structures and develop a spatially resolved optical characterization system to analyze the optical properties, such as refractive index and birefringence gradients, under extreme material gradients. This work aims to advance the manufacturing capabilities of high-performance optical materials for applications in efficient light-emitting diodes, advanced medical imaging, and enhanced solar cells. The project will also increase participation of underrepresented groups through undergraduate research opportunities and K-12 outreach activities.
