This National Science Foundation (NSF) Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) Program grant for $494,792 awarded to Miami University will support the development and use of a state-of-the-art GPU-accelerated computing cluster called the "Talon" to advance artificial intelligence (AI) research and education across the university's academic divisions. The Talon cluster will enable high-performance computing for a variety of applications, including simulations of atomic nuclei, AI chatbot development, machine learning for manufacturing quality control, and other interdisciplinary research efforts. The project will also leverage the Talon cluster to provide 20% of its computing capacity to the broader research community through the Open Science Grid. Additionally, the university will incorporate the societal and pedagogical impacts of AI into its curriculum to train an engaged community prepared to meet the needs of the U.S. economy in machine learning and AI. The grant award period is from May 1, 2024 to April 30, 2026.
