This $749,321 Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's STEM Education program (CFDA 47.076) supports the NC STATE STEM EDUCATION SCHOLARS PROGRAM (NC S3) at North Carolina State University. The project aims to address critical teacher shortages in mathematics and science in high-need school districts across North Carolina by recruiting and preparing a diverse pool of 21 STEM education scholars. The program will provide the scholars with learning experiences to deepen their content knowledge and develop pedagogical strategies to effectively teach students from diverse backgrounds. By the time the scholars complete their teaching service requirement, approximately 9,000 students in high-need districts will have received mathematics and science instruction from these highly qualified teachers. The project will also evaluate the preparation and retention of these beginning teachers, and disseminate the findings through conference presentations and publications. No sub-awards are planned under this grant, which is scheduled for completion by July 31, 2029.
