This National Science Foundation (NSF) STEM Education (CFDA 47.076) grant award of $434,522 to George Mason University, doing business as Mason, will fund the Framework for Integrating Technology for Equity (FIT for Equity) project. The project aims to engage 24 teachers in co-designing technology-enhanced data literacy lessons that include students and community members as co-authors. This inclusive lesson study approach is intended to advance equity in mathematics education by supporting the critical data literacies necessary for students to participate as informed citizens. The award period is from September 1, 2024 to August 31, 2027. The project will produce a collection of data literacy mathematics lessons featuring transformative technologies to address community-based challenges, co-authored by teachers, students, and community members across four geographic locations. Iterative implementation cycles will be used to develop and test design principles for planning, observing, and reflecting on technology-integrated mathematics lessons that promote culturally responsive teaching practices.
