The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded a $240,528 Project Grant to Northwestern University's Stable Isotope Biogeochemistry Laboratory under the NSF Geosciences program (CFDA 47.050). The funding will support the acquisition of two peripheral instruments - a gas chromatograph with combustion and pyrolysis interfaces, and an elemental analyzer - as well as a water purification system. These instruments will replace aging equipment and maintain the laboratory's analytical capabilities to conduct isotope-based research on topics such as paleoclimate reconstruction, carbon cycling, and microbial interactions. The award also includes support for high school internships through the university's NU-GEOPATHS outreach program, providing students from diverse backgrounds exposure to geoscience research. The project period runs from March 2024 through February 2025.
