This $177,306 Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's STEM Education program (CFDA 47.076) will support "RESPONSIBLE, ETHICAL, AND EFFECTIVE ACCEPTABLE USE POLICIES FOR THE INTEGRATION OF GENERATIVE AI IN US SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND BEYOND". The project will convene a Generative AI (GenAI) Working Group comprised of diverse school and district leaders to:
Write, adapt, and share sample GenAI Acceptable Use Policies (AUPs) for a range of district contexts.
Work with their own districts to develop and share GenAI AUPs for the responsible, ethical, and effective integration of this emerging technology.
Participate in a final public webinar to share their insights on GenAI and the developed policies.
This effort aims to address the uncertainty and challenges faced by school and district leaders regarding the use of AI, particularly concerns around privacy, data security, bias, and equitable access. The grant recipient, Digital Promise Global, will lead this work in collaboration with the GenAI Working Group and subject matter experts. The project will run from September 2023 to August 2024.
