This $243,000 Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's Geosciences program (CFDA 47.050) aims to establish a "Geoscience Learning Community and Network (GEONET)" to support secondary science teachers in Nebraska in integrating geoscience content into their curricula. The key objectives are to: 1) Provide professional development and training to help teachers craft new lesson plans infusing geoscience themes, 2) Facilitate incorporation of geoscience concepts aligned with Next Generation Science Standards across diverse science subjects, 3) Enhance teachers' knowledge and teaching efficacy in geosciences, and 4) Increase teacher awareness of geoscience career pathways. This 3-year project, administered by the University of Nebraska, will leverage a network of master teacher leaders to nurture additional cohorts of secondary science educators through sustained professional development, field-based learning experiences, and community engagement. The goal is to improve geoscience education and foster greater student interest in geoscience careers.
