The National Science Foundation (NSF) Division of Materials Research awarded a $262,500 Project Grant under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049) to the Georgia Tech Research Corporation (Georgia Tech) for the "DMREF/Collaborative Research: Active Learning-based Material Discovery for 3D Printed Solids with Locally-Tunable Electrical and Mechanical Properties" project. This multi-disciplinary effort aims to establish an active learning approach to rapidly discover new material chemistries for additive manufacturing (3D printing) that can provide local control over electrical and mechanical properties. The research will develop high-throughput experimental and computational methods to characterize polymer properties, build an active learning model to guide monomer selection, and leverage this to design and fabricate 3D functional devices. No sub-awards are planned for this award, which runs from August 1, 2023 to July 31, 2027. The project seeks to maintain and enhance US leadership in additive manufacturing through innovative materials research, student engagement, and promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM fields.
