This Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation Division of Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences, under CFDA Program 47.075 Social, Behavioral, and Economic Sciences, will fund a research project examining the relationship between caregiver-child physical proximity and attachment security. The $237,191 award to Vanderbilt University will support a 3-year study utilizing wearable devices called "TotTags" to measure second-by-second physical proximity patterns between children and their caregivers in everyday settings. The goal is to determine if regular close contact, in addition to caregiver sensitivity, is a key factor in developing secure attachment relationships. The project aims to provide insights into the daily lives of families with young children and inform interventions to promote healthy caregiver-child bonds. The findings may contribute to establishing an educational workshop for first-time parents on child development and caregiving.
