The National Science Foundation Office of Integrative Activities awarded a $1,179,143 Project Grant to the University of New Hampshire (UNH) to acquire an Orbitrap Eclipse Tribrid mass spectrometer. This equipment will (i) dramatically improve UNH's mass spectrometry capabilities to expedite diverse research projects, (ii) facilitate hands-on training and inquiry-based learning on modern instrumentation, and (iii) establish a regional high-resolution mass spectrometry facility. The funding will enable in-depth proteomics analysis and support 26 interdisciplinary research programs across 11 UNH departments, providing expanded research training opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students throughout New England. The new mass spectrometer will advance a wide range of biological, chemical, and engineering research projects with significant societal impacts, such as developing new energy sources, elucidating disease mechanisms, protecting the environment, and improving agriculture and nutrition.
