This National Science Foundation (NSF) project grant, awarded under the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049), will establish the RITTU Partnership - a new research and education collaboration between Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and Texas Tech University (TTU). The two-year, $313,778 program aims to break down disciplinary and cultural barriers in astronomy, with a focus on exploring neutron star astrophysics through multi-messenger observations. The partnership will develop pathways for deaf/hard-of-hearing and Hispanic undergraduate students to participate in academic preparation and summer research experiences, equipping them with cross-disciplinary skills for competitive graduate programs or STEM careers. Key research areas include studying binary neutron star mergers and using pulsar timing to guide gravitational wave searches. This award supports NSF's "Windows on the Universe" Big Idea by advancing fundamental astrophysics through a diverse student training program.
