This Project Grant award from the National Science Foundation's STEM Education program (CFDA 47.076) aims to establish a novel "Engaged Learning Environment for Emerging Transportation Technologies" (ELET2) learning platform. The $190,000 award to the Old Dominion University Research Foundation (ODURF) will develop an online, virtual, and interactive platform that uses advanced simulation, visualization, and modeling techniques to provide engaging and realistic learning experiences for undergraduate students on emerging transportation technologies, such as connected and autonomous vehicles and shared mobility. The project will create four integrated teaching modules covering key aspects of these transformational transportation technologies, and rigorously evaluate the platform's effectiveness through learning assessments and student motivation surveys. The ELET2 platform is intended to improve undergraduate STEM education by connecting students to the latest advancements in transportation and preparing the next-generation workforce.
