The National Science Foundation (NSF) Division of Electrical, Communications and Cyber Systems awarded a $550,000 Project Grant under the NSF Engineering program (CFDA 47.041) to the Regents of the University of California, doing business as the University of California, Berkeley. The grant period runs from July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2026. The goal of the research project is to explore low-cost integrated circuit technology for next-generation 240 GHz multiple-input, multiple-output (MIMO) radar systems. Key focus areas include the 240 GHz receiver and transmitter, frequency generation and distribution, and addressing system and antenna/packaging challenges to enable high-performance, energy-efficient MIMO radar for applications such as autonomous vehicles, gesture recognition, and biomedical imaging. The research aims to advance radar technology and support the development of future "6G" broadband communication capabilities.
