The National Science Foundation Division of Information and Intelligent Systems awarded a $143,624 Project Grant to the University of Georgia Research Foundation, Inc. under the Computer and Information Science and Engineering federal grant program (CFDA 47.070). The award will support a collaborative research project between multidisciplinary investigators to leverage advances in neuroscience data and develop brain-inspired artificial intelligence.
Specifically, the researchers will analyze neuronal imaging and molecular profiling data using novel network inference algorithms to understand learning-induced rewiring of neural circuits. They will also build biochemical models of neuronal networks and develop a spintronic material network model to emulate learning and memory formation. The work seeks to lay the foundation for an interdisciplinary brain-to-materials initiative applying principles of neural circuits to overcome computing limitations. The award period is December 1, 2022 through November 30, 2023.
