The National Science Foundation (NSF) Division of Astronomical Sciences awarded a $360,589 Project Grant to the University of Missouri System, doing business as the Curators of the University of Missouri, for the "Collaborative Research: The Emergence of Dusty Starbursts in Cosmic History" project. The project aims to conduct a comprehensive survey of a large sample of 629 candidate dusty starburst galaxies at redshifts greater than 6 using the 50-meter Large Millimeter Telescope (LMT). The survey will determine accurate redshifts and positions, and identify optical counterparts and stellar masses/populations, to place strong constraints on the star formation and metal enrichment history of the early universe. This work will support a postdoc, graduate student, public outreach activities, and a program to produce scientifically literate journalists. The project aligns with the NSF Mathematical and Physical Sciences (CFDA 47.049) program objectives to promote the progress of the mathematical and physical sciences and strengthen the nation's scientific enterprise.
