This $566,820 National Science Foundation Project Grant, funded through the Mathematical and Physical Sciences program (CFDA 47.049), supports research at the University of Pittsburgh to develop novel brush copolymer materials with two-dimensional sequence control. Professor Tara Meyer will prepare brush copolymers containing biodegradable and biocompatible lactic and glycolic acid side chains of varying sequences. The research will investigate the combined effects of backbone and sidechain sequence on the materials' hydrolytic degradation profiles. Additionally, the project aims to synthesize cyclic brush copolymers with two-dimensional sequence control and ring-opened variants to create alternating brush-linear multiblock copolymers. Fundamental studies on the interplay between polymer architecture and degradation rate have potential to improve design of brush-based drug delivery vehicles. The award period is from May 1, 2023 to April 30, 2026.
