This three-year $337,583 National Science Foundation project grant supports research to improve understanding of the three-part structure of coronal mass ejections (CMEs). Funded under the NSF's Geosciences program (CFDA 47.050), the award will combine data analyses from multiple agencies including NSF, NASA, and NOAA with numerical simulations. Led by the University of New Hampshire, the research team will address key science questions to better characterize CME substructures and their physical properties as observed in remote sensing data and in situ measurements. Findings aim to advance knowledge of CME dynamics and evolution. As part of the NSF's mission to strengthen the geosciences, this award also supports an early career scientist and related public outreach engaging students and teachers on CME impacts.
