The Oregon Department of Forestry received a $1,385,320 project grant award from the US Department of Agriculture Forest Service Pacific Northwest Region to support volunteer fire assistance activities from September 2022 through September 2025.
The grant funding will support the State & Private Forestry Cooperative Fire Assistance program, which aims to assist in controlling rural fires and developing new approaches for fire prevention, control, and prescribed use on non-federal forest and other rural lands. As the designated state agency, the Oregon Department of Forestry will leverage the funding to deliver services like fire prevention, control, and suppression training to volunteer fire departments across Oregon through September 2025. The award is part of broader federal efforts to enhance rural fire protection capabilities through state-level coordination of volunteer fire assistance programs.
