This National Science Foundation (NSF) Division of Civil, Mechanical, and Manufacturing Innovation (CMMI) project grant, titled "LEAP-HI: ALL-CARBON RECYCLABLE ELECTRONICS (ACRE): REALIZING A SUSTAINABLE ELECTRONICS LIFECYCLE", will investigate the printing of all-carbon recyclable electronic (ACRE) materials to replace silicon- or metal oxide-based semiconductors in display manufacturing. The $500,000 award to Duke University, with a sub-award to Columbia University, aims to develop fully printed ACRE thin-film transistors on glass, analyze the energy and environmental impact of the materials and processes, and demonstrate a pixel-driving circuit with ACRE transistors. The project will pursue scientific discoveries in the core chemistry, functionalization, environmental impact, and print processing of solution-phase nanomaterials. This award supports NSF's CMMI program, which seeks to advance engineering innovation that improves quality of life and economic strength through creative research and education.
